A recent report from Forbes India reveals a data breach affecting over 7.5 million boAt customers. A hacker known as ShopifyGUY claimed to have accessed the data of boAt Lifestyle customers. On April 5th, the hacker released files containing personally identifiable information (PII) of these customers, totaling around 2GB of data, onto a dark web forum. Security experts warn of potential consequences such as financial fraud, phishing scams, and identity theft. Threat actors may exploit this data for unauthorized access to bank accounts and misuse of credit cards. Notably, boAt has not yet publicly addressed the breach.
In the third quarter of 2023, boAt rose to become the world’s second-largest wearable shipments player, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). They shipped a whopping 14.3 million wearables during this time.
