Just six months after launching the M3 chips, Apple is already developing the M4 series. These chips will come in different versions, offering more power for the next-gen MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and iMac models with AI features. Here’s what we know so far:

Apple M4 variants (expected)

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple is preparing for M4 chip production, which will have three variants:

Donan: This entry-level processor will power MacBook Air models and base-level Mac Mini.
Brava: Engineered for more powerful MacBook Pros and an iMac Mini model.
Hidra: The flagship variant will drive top-end Mac Pro models.

Apple Macs, MacBooks, and iMacs release timeline (expected)

Fall 2024 – early 2025: Apple will roll out new products in phases, starting possibly from fall 2024 to early 2025. Expect new iMacs, a base 14-inch MacBook Pro, higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and possibly a refreshed Mac Mini.

Spring 2025 – mid-2025: Look for 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with M4 processors in spring 2025. Around mid-2025, we might see an M4-powered Mac Studio.

Late 2025: Towards the end of 2025, anticipate the premium Mac Pro with the M4 Hidra chip, likely featuring 512GB of unified memory.

As mentioned earlier, these devices may utilize AI, with machine learning happening on the device. This requires extra processing power, making the M4 chip and additional memory crucial. Expect more about Apple’s AI plans at WWDC 2024 in June. Keep an eye out for updates!
