HP Envy x360 2-in-1 (2023) laptop review: More hits than misses

The HP Envy x360 comes in both 14-inch and 15.6-inch screen sizes. We tried the larger version which has a few extra benefits over the smaller version.

Its HP Envy x360 is a 2-in-1 laptop, which is a high-end laptop with a broad selection of specs. It is equipped with an 1355 MHz Intel Core processors, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU, and 16GB of LPDDR5-5200 MHz RAM. It can handle difficult tasks, but so are other choices within its price range. But does the Envy 360 have more to offer than top specifications? Let’s find out.

The HP Envy x360 comes in both 14-inch and 15.6-inch screen sizes. We have tested the larger model that comes with a few additional benefits over the smaller model.

Design

The style for HP’s HP Envy x360 is pretty simple and elegant. In addition to the latest HP branding, users won’t find a lot of bling around the cover. It’s the size of a 15.6-inch-inch laptop this model Envy x360 is both compact and lightweight. Its dimensions are comparable to those of the laptops with 14 inches. It weighs 1.77 kilograms. Its aesthetics are decent that give it a professional appearance.

The side bezels of the laptop are quite slim, and the bezels on top and bottom aren’t too obtrusive either. The laptop has a good body-to-screen ratio of 88.34 percent. The black-colored nightfall of the unit we reviewed is not just black. It offers the laptop a distinctive feel. We did find it to be susceptible to fingerprints. Overall, the build seems solid and sturdy, with no movement even with its 360-degree hinges.

Performance

HP Envyx360 15.6 inches 2-in-one Laptop Computer is quite robust with up to Intel Core i7-1355U CPU (up to 5.0 GHz ) and Intel Turbo Accelerate Technology(2g) 12-MB of L3 memory and 10 cores with twelve threads). It also has support for as high as NVIDIA GeForce 3050 RTX Laptop GPU (4 GB GDDR6 dedicated) as well as up to 16GB memory with LPDDR5-5200MHz (onboard) which makes it an ideal choice for users who want an extra power source and the capability to handle the daily demands. The laptop is equipped with a variety of storage options for internal storage, including 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD.

Our test unit was powered by the Core i5-1335U, which has 16GB of RAM, and Intel’s Iris Xe graphic. In the course of our everyday use it did not slow down at all. Utilizing daily MS Office and other professional applications felt as if it was easy. We played games like GTA 5 and the laptop did not have any issues offering more than 50 frames per second on the normal (1080p) configuration. The speed of bootup was phenomenal that is made possible due to Intel EVO badging. Additionally, you can use Windows Hello with the help of an IR camera, which allows you to start up your PC a single procedure.

On Geekbench The CPU of the laptop could achieve a single-core score of 2291 and an overall score of 8718. This Intel Iris Xe graphic managed an OpenCL score of 12323.

Connectivity and Battery

The laptop comes with a good number of ports suitable for everyday use. There’s the SD card port and an 3.5 millimeter jack and a USB Type A port to the left. On the right side, you will find a second USB Type-A port, as well as an HDMI 2.1 port, as well as two Thunderbolt 4 ports. HP could have given additional flexibility by adding a type-c port to the left side or by distributing the ports evenly to facilitate access on the charger cable. The laptop is also equipped with wireless options like Intel Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

As for battery life the laptop is able to offer a charge of up to four hours in thirty minutes for charging. In moderate or heavy use the laptop could give up to 10-hours of display time.

Display

I wanted to save the most impressive for final. The display of the brand new HP Envy X360 2-in-1 laptop is vivid and bright. The 15.6-inch screen is merely an FHD panel that has 60Hz resolution, but the bigger screen and OLED display brings out the darker black levels. The laptop’s screen is able to display 400 nits of brightness as well as HDR brightness of 500 nits, and a 100% DCI-P3 color range. The laptop is the very first instance that you’ll find an IMAX Advanced Certification on a laptop, which means the display is tuned to provide better quality output when watching shows and movies. The size of the screen (16:9 doesn’t seem to be compatible with the larger IMAX ratio.

I’ve tried several Windows laptops sporting OLED display, I have to say that the latest Envy X360 laptop has higher calibration than other laptops in this class. My only complaint regarding this display is the fact that it’s restricted to 1080 pixels. This may be fine for everyday use however the lower resolution is less than ideal in the area of display. The audio experience is fantastic due to the Bang and Olufsen speakers. You shouldn’t expect the same level of sound is found in MacBooks however, the laptop does provide plenty of sound and clearness. Another point to be aware of is that speakers fire from the bottom, therefore they can only be effective to the extent that they are placed on the floor.

Verdict

Overall it is a good choice. HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC is a powerful and flexible device that offers an excellent mix of getting the basics right while simultaneously offering additional features like Intel EVO certification and IMAX Enhanced certification. It’s a must-have to use for media and can also be an ideal professional partner.
